Lakes State police reported 9 deaths and 6 severe injuries following a cattle camp dispute in Yirol East County.
Police spokesperson Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuach stated the
clash occurred on Monday between Panawuol and Panthier sections of the same clan over
Aliet cattle camp.
"The report we have received indicates that two
sections clashed over a cattle camp called Aliet in Yirol East County. So far,
it has been reported that 9 people died, and 6 others sustained severe gunshot
injuries. However, this is not the full report, as we suspect that some of the
missing individuals may have also died,” Mabor reported.
The police spokesperson stated that joint security forces,
including SSPDF soldiers and police officers, have been deployed to contain the
situation and arrest the ringleaders.
"All forces are now deployed at the camp and are
working hard to calm the situation. A full report will be available tomorrow,
and those involved in the clash will be apprehended and taken to jail,” he said.
No arrests have been reported so far, but security forces
remain at the camp to maintain order. Those injured have been transported to
Yirol West Main Hospital for further medical care.
Attempts by Mingkaman FM to reach the Yirol hospital
administrator for updates on the survivors' conditions were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, in a separate cattle-related incident in Awerial County, two soldiers and one civilian are hospitalized at Mingkaman PHCC after sustaining injuries in a clash between cattle keepers and soldiers at Kacwong Abuk cattle camp.
