Who is the new South Sudan national minister of health?

On Wednesday night, President Kiir sacked Health Minister Elizabeth Achuei Yol and appointed Awel Deng in her place as the new minister.

So who is the new minister?

 

Yolanda Awel Deng Juach is a South Sudanese psychologist and mental health expert. She graduated with a bachelor degree (B.A. in Psychology) from the University of Saskatchewan and master’s degree (M.A. in Conflict Analysis and Management) from Royal Roads University, both in Canada.

 

She attended various institutions to specialize in working with vulnerable and specialized populations. She worked with the UN dealing with ex-child soldiers and women in Africa and health authorities in authority.

Awel is a member of the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly ( RTNLA) representing Twic County on the SPLM-IO ticket.
