Six people
have died as a result of 157 snake bites, according to the Warrap State flood
crisis management team.
William Wol
Mayom, the state's minister of information and chairperson for flood crisis
management, reports that severe flooding has damaged 200 schools and forced
184,000 people to relocate to higher ground and roadsides.
Out of the
184,000 individuals displaced by the floods, he reports that 15,000 received
food rations and 6,000 households received shelters. Regrettably, 169,000
individuals missed out on food distribution.
He asserted
the second fresh wave of devastating floods in Warrap, raising fears of
snakebite and waterborne diseases, including cholera.
Wol said
the government is coordinating with humanitarian organizations to support
people in need within the state.
“Last Friday,
we held a meeting with some of our partners to share the report with them, so
the number affected by flooding is high, both in the first and second fresh
wave. We told the NGOs that there is a need to support those victims of flood,”
he explained.
The minister
urged the community to prioritize safety during the flooding to avoid the risks
of drowning and snake bites.
It's crucial
for everyone to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect
themselves and their families, the officials advised.
