Traders in Turalei town, Twic County of Warrap State, have raised concern over a surge in night shop break-ins by unidentified thieves.

One of the victims, Majdi Abdel Raham Idriss, told Mayardit 90.7 FM that his shop was raided on Monday night when thieves tore through the roof and made away with valuables worth hundreds of thousands of South Sudanese pounds.

“They opened shop roofing at night. When I came in the morning to open the shop, I found the sunlight reflection inside. We found nothing inside the shop, and we went to open the case to the police,” Idiriss said.

“The phones stolen are big, small techno and I-tell phones and techno-480 were taken. SSP 570,000 is also stolen. One memory card, one battery, smart phones screens and one Bluetooth speaker.”

He added that despite paying regular fees to the police for night guarding, traders continue to suffer repeated losses.

“Every month in the mid and at the end, police takes money from us for guarding shops,” Idriss stated.

The traders are now calling on authorities to take responsibility and ensure that markets are protected at night to prevent further thefts.

However, Twic County police said they have not yet received an official report regarding the latest incident.
