Turalei man torches brother’s property over bride price share

Police in Turalei town have detained a 62-year-old man accused of setting his older brother’s house on fire last evening at Bumgok village.

According to police preliminary investigation, Ring Malek Dut’s action cost his brother Kuoch a hut and a granary full of harvests.

Police attributed the motive to anger after his brother refused to give him his share of a bride price – one cow.

“But his brother, the father of the daughter denied him the support,” said Brig.-Gen. Marko Mawien, Twic County police director.

This is the second this year a man resorted to arson over a disagreement related to cow. Read here.
