At least 20 people who were arrested and charged with instigating violence in Gogrial West County have been released on bail.
Police detained the suspects on Monday for reportedly fuelling last month’s fighting between Awan Yien and Awan Rup communities.
The clashes were over a contested piece of land.
The public prosecutor allowed the suspects to be freed on temporary basis – pending court trial.
Those released on bail include one accused of murder, and 2 others suspected of burning houses during the conflict.
Abdalla Deng Mou, Akon Police Inspector Colonel warned the communities against taking laws into their hands.
“No one should cause instability again. We the police are vigilant day and night. Let us respect the directives from the Public Prosecutor and wait for the day the court hearing will start,” he said.
Last month, fighting erupted between Awan Yien and Awan Rup communities over ownership of a land where a telecommunication network tower will be installed.
One person was killed and 3 others injured, including a woman.
