The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) party has struck an agreement with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement to swap the Jonglei State governorship.
The decision was reached after President Salva Kiir tasked the leadership of SSOA to find an option to address the simmering governance crisis in Jonglei State.
Governor Denay Jack Chagor is presumed to be relieved as President Kiir is to effect the changes in the coming days, according to the office of the president.
In statement seen by The Radio Community from the office of the president, SSOA will take the position of the deputy governor while SPLM will now take over the governorship position.
The head of SSOA, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang, told the media that they as SSOA are satisfied with the new arrangements for the purpose of peace and functional administration of Jonglei State.
Also, according to the new arrangement, SSOA will take up a ministerial position in the national government and a special envoy position.
