A delegation of SPLM officials travelling to Pageri in Magwi County for a party membership registration event has been attacked by unknown gunmen along the Torit–Magwi Road.

The Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Charles Udwar Ukech, told Singaita FM that his driver, Adolfo Ngachan, was killed in the attack near Tutumore, while two others, including a member of the delegation and a bodyguard, sustained injuries.

“It was Hon. Dr. Margaret and Hon. Gen. Emilio. They were going to Pageri to launch SPLM registration, but the driver killed is my driver, a member of parliament. The bodyguard was injured on the hand, and Hon. Gen. Emilio was injured on the thigh but there was no fracture. He has now been taken to Juba for an operation,” Udwar said.

Torit Caretaker Commissioner Eddy William Ponsiano said security forces had been sent to the scene to pursue the attackers.

“The SPLM members were attacked just a few metres from the junction of Torit and Juba. The army is following the attackers. The footprints show three people,” Ponsiano said.

The delegation included Dr. Margaret Itto and Gen. Emilio Igga, who were travelling to Pageri for SPLM grassroots mobilisation ahead of the planned 2026 general elections.
