“Our aim as the SPLM-IO is to see that South Sudan is established on viable and sustainable system of government that gives citizens power to determine their own destiny and affairs,” said Oyet.

The 2018 revitalized peace agreement provides for unification of the national army to create secure environment and provides security for citizens, repatriation of refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes of origins to start rebuilding their lives followed by the transitional justice to initiate national healing and reconciliation addressing the root causes of the 2013 and 2016 conflicts.

The peace deal also provides for the making of the permanent constitution as a condition to usher the country into a democratic dispensation after all other reforms outlined in the agreement are achieved during the transitional period.

However, the country is yet to achieve the implementation of these critical tasks for the conduct of elections.

The National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC) – a body to make the constitution, is yet to be funded to start going to the grassroots.
