South Sudan eyes stronger economic ties with Russia

South Sudan has expressed its intent to strengthen economic ties with Russia, focusing on trade, investment, and sustainable development.

This follows a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Goc, and H.E. Vladlen Semivolos, the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Russian Federation to South Sudan, on Tuesday in Juba.

The meeting underscored both countries' shared interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas that will support South Sudan's economic growth and stability.

According to a statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs, minister Goc reiterated South Sudan's strong commitment to enhancing its relations with Russia, emphasizing the potential benefits of closer ties for both nations.

Ambassador Semivolos echoed the minister emphasizing Russia’s eagerness to deepen its collaboration with South Sudan. The Russian Ambassador stressed the importance of creating opportunities that will not only benefit both countries economically but also promote sustainable development.

The discussions between the two leaders were framed around a vision of strategic collaboration, with both sides agreeing to explore new avenues for partnership in a variety of sectors, including trade and investment.

The meeting marks another step in the strengthening of South Sudan’s foreign relations as the country seeks to diversify its international partnerships and attract foreign investment.

As the youngest nation in the world, South Sudan faces unique challenges in its development.

South Sudan has been working to stabilize its economy, which has been greatly affected by years of conflict. Increased cooperation with Russia presents an opportunity for the country to tap into new markets, improve infrastructure, and expand sectors critical to long-term growth.

Both countries share a mutual vision of promoting shared prosperity through increased engagement and strategic collaboration. The talks are expected to pave the way for further discussions and agreements that will shape future cooperation between South Sudan and the Russian Federation.

As South Sudan continues its journey toward economic recovery and development, the role of international partnerships like the one with Russia will be crucial in achieving sustainable growth and regional stability.
