Former Governor of Lakes State, Lt. Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor, has expressed deep gratitude to President Salva Kiir for the trust and confidence placed in him during his tenure as Governor of Lakes State.

In an appreciation message addressed to the President following his removal on Monday, Lt. Gen. Mabor marked the conclusion of his service, which began on June 8, 2021, and officially ended on January 19, 2026.

He described his four years and seven months in office as a period of pride, service, and collective achievement under the President’s leadership.

“I am writing to formally express my gratitude for the trust and confidence you placed in me by appointing me as the Governor of Lakes State,” Rin said. “As I conclude my tenure, I look back with immense pride in what we have achieved together.”

Reflecting on South Sudan’s history, the former governor emphasized continuity in leadership and national service, noting that public office is temporary but commitment to the nation is permanent.

“Leadership, as we learned during the dark and challenging days of our liberation struggle, is a relay race. Assignments come and go, but our commitment to the nation remains constant,” he stated.

Lt. Gen. Rin highlighted the significance of transitioning from the liberation struggle to sub-national governance, saying his role focused on ensuring peace and stability took firm root in Lakes State.

He also extended appreciation to key stakeholders, including the State Cabinet, Members of Parliament, traditional authorities, civil servants, the people of Lakes State, and the South Sudanese diaspora for their collective contribution to peace and governance.

“It has been a singular honor to serve the resilient people of Lakes State and to work with institutions and communities that remained committed to peaceful coexistence,” Rin said.

As he handed over leadership, Lt. Gen. Rin reaffirmed his loyalty to the nation and the President.

“As I hand over the mantle, I remain a loyal son of South Sudan,” he said. “Thank you for the guidance and the opportunity to have served and contributed to the history of Lakes State and the Republic of South Sudan.”
