Police authorities in Juba have urged residents to remain calm following reports circulating among members of the public about increased security deployment in parts of the capital.

Police Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Justin Daniel told The Radio Community that the general security situation in Juba remains calm and that there is no cause for alarm.

He explained that what is being observed is part of routine police operations, including ongoing internal preparations and refresher training for officers as the country approaches the election period.

“We are gathering our forces this morning, and this is normal. The general situation is calm. People should feel at home, there is nothing. This is our routine work. We have a lot of engagement these days. We’re conducting some refreshment trainings for our forces,” Daniel said.

“Because December is just at the door. So, we are preparing ourselves because most of the duties will be on the police to make sure that our elections are conducted peacefully.”

Meanwhile, SSPDF Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang said he had received multiple inquiries from media houses regarding the reported deployment but had no confirmed information at the time.

“I have no information, but I’m waiting for my boss. My boss [CDF] is in a meeting. I have received a lot of calls from media agencies regarding the same issue [deployment]. I want to bring it to his attention, but he’s still in a meeting,” Koang said.

Despite public concern and reports circulating about security presence in some areas, police have reiterated that the situation in Juba remains calm and under control, urging residents not to panic or disrupt normal activities.
