Residents of Thongping, Mauna, and Buluk panicked when they heard heavy gunfire in Juba for nearly two hours late on Tuesday evening.

Brig. Gen. James Dak, deputy police spokesperson, told The Radio Community that the shooting happened around Ministries Road.

“What happened last night at Kololo was that the patrol force tried to stop one of the vehicles, but the driver refused to stop, and he continued driving away. So, they became suspicious of him and started shooting him,” said Dak.

The security forces managed to wound and apprehend the driver, who is currently under medical care.

“They continued chasing him, and, in the end, he was shot and apprehended. He was taken to the hospital; his condition is now stable, and the investigation is going on,” Dak explained.

Due to his injuries sustained during the incident, the driver has not yet been able to give a statement to the police.

“He was wounded, and he was not able to speak so that the police could take his statement, but once he’s okay, he police will take his statement,” Dak assured.
