Authorities
in Kapoeta South County, Eastern Equatoria State have arrested one suspect in
connection with a recent road robbery incident along the Kapoeta–Narus road.
According
to County Commissioner Paul Lokale, the arrest was made on Monday after a
commercial vehicle traveling from Kapoeta to Kenya was allegedly ambushed and
robbed.
The
driver of the vehicle, a Kenyan national, reported that the suspect stole
several personal items, including a mobile phone, laptop, and cash. While
Singaita 88.3 FM could not independently verify the claim, officials confirmed
that the suspect was apprehended in Nakor-Ngomo village and is currently in
police custody.
Commissioner
Lokale commended the swift response by local security forces and cooperation
from community members, which led to the arrest.
“Before
the rain started, the vehicle left Kapoeta and was stopped by a man on the
road,” Lokale explained. “According to the driver, the man took his belongings
and fled. Our security personnel traced the suspect to a bus in Nanakank, near
Nakor-Ngomo, and arrested him. He is now under investigation, and we are
waiting for the driver to come and identify him.”
Local
authorities continue to urge residents to work closely with law enforcement to
improve road safety and bring perpetrators to justice.
