One person was reportedly killed in road ambush, two others injured, and two children abducted on Sunday along the Pagook-Ngatinga road in Baidit Payam, Bor County.
The attackers opened fire on a Landcruiser that was carrying residents from Jale to Bor, according to the acting county commissioner.
Mabior Athiu identified the deceased as Nhial Adau Kur, and the injured – Akech Chol Akech and Aruar Malong Alek.
Two little sisters aged 4 and 2 were abducted.
“The suspects are from Pibor because they have taken the children and this is the bad practice,” Mabior told Mingkaman FM.
“We are calling upon the Greater Pibor Administrative Area authorities to call their people back, because ambushing people along the roads is not good.’’
In response, the information minister in GPAA, Abraham Kelang Jiji, says his government is not aware of the incident.
He, however, promised to inform the commissioners in the counties bordering Jonglei State to help in tracing the abductees.
He stated: “I will inform the commissioners so that they beef up their surveillance so that when those criminals come, they should arrest them, and the children returned to their parents.”
The greater Jonglei has been facing gross violation of human rights in form of child abduction, cattle raiding and revenge killings for decades.
Attempts to change the practices through community dialogues and conferences have yielded no positive results.
