
The Nyamlel Hospital administration has reported an increase in malaria cases among children under the age of 5 and elderly people.
Since last week, the health facility located in Aweil West County has recorded 280 confirmed cases of the malaria disease.
Speaking to Akol Yam FM, he encouraged the public to sleep under mosquito nets to prevent malaria infection.
“Some people wait until they hear mosquitoes sing in their ears to sleep under a mosquito net,” said Lual Chemist Lual, medical officer. "We distributed mosquito nets last year, and it is beneficial for everyone to use them now."
The bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes transmit malaria, a life-threatening disease, to humans.
People with malaria often experience fever, chills, and flu-like illnesses. Left untreated, they may develop severe complications and die.
