The Ministry of Health in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) plans to upgrade three health facilities into county hospitals as part of the state’s $2.5 million annual health budget.
The Council of Ministers approved the Ministry’s annual plan and operational budget on Thursday.
Director General Dr. Malong Diing Aher said the selected facilities are in Arroyo, Malek Alel, and Gok Machar counties.
“These three health facilities, we want to upgrade them into
county hospitals. For them to be upgraded, there are some things we must do,
like what we have done in Nyamlel,” Aher said.
The upgrades will include an Expanded Programme on
Immunization (EPI) block for vaccines, a blood bank, maternity theater and a
general operating theatre to strengthen service delivery. “All these have been
calculated in the budget,” she stated.
The project will be financed through state government funds, donor contributions, and support from well-wishers. The Ministry said the upgrades are expected to improve maternal and child health services and expand access to critical care in the counties.
