The Unity State’s Minister of Information, Nyakenya
Johannes, is urging young South Sudanese to rise above tribal divisions and
actively participate in building a peaceful nation as the country enters the
New Year.
“I want to urge all of us to ensure that we work very hard
to maintain peaceful relations among ourselves despite our different tribes. We
want the best for our country and as young people,” Johannes told The Radio
Community (TRC) in an interview during the recently concluded national
conference on combating hate speech.
“As a government, we remain committed to ensuring that we
promote peace and rise beyond our differences as a government.”
In South Sudan, where young people make up 70% of the
population, they are increasingly stepping into roles as agents of positive
change, even though some remain associated with cattle raiding and
inter-communal conflicts.
Last week, President Salva Kiir emphasized the need to
reject all forms of violence.
He added that reconciliation is key to healing divisions,
and that love and cooperation are essential for building a strong and
successful nation.
