South Sudan's Bright Stars will be boosted by the late arrival of key players Kur Gai Kur and Ayom Majok ahead of their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against Senegal.
According to head coach Nicolas Dupuis, the duo is set to touch down in Juba on Friday, just hours before the national team faces one of Africa’s football giants at Juba National Stadium.
Kur, a talented midfielder for Avondale FC in Australia, and Majok, a striker for Marsaxlokk in the Malta Premier League, are joining the squad to strengthen South Sudan’s midfield and attacking options before the big game.
The Bright Stars have already been reinforced by the arrival of Tito Okello, who plays in the Libyan Premier League, and Atendele Geriga Mawa, who plays in Uganda.
The inclusion of Kur and Majok is expected to add more depth and confidence to the team.
Coach Dupuis acknowledged Senegal’s strength but remained optimistic.
“We know that Senegal is one of the best teams in Africa. We will need to play with good positivity. My players know how they can play good football," Dupuis stated on Thursday in Juba.
"They will fight for sure. We know Senegal is a formidable opponent, but we believe in our ability to rise to the occasion. Nothing is impossible in football."
Valentino Yuel Kuach, team captain, expressed determination ahead of the encounter.
“We want to win, we don't want to just participate. We've prepared tirelessly, and now it's time to put our skills to the test. We shall bring our best to make our fans proud," Yuel said on Thursday in Juba.
South Sudan currently sits at the bottom of Group B with four points, while Senegal tops the group with 18 points and remains unbeaten.
The Bright Stars will be hoping for a spirited home performance boosted by their new arrivals.
