President Salva Kiir has instructed the newly appointed Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Paul Nang Majok, to prioritize professionalism and integrity within the South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF) in a critical initiative to strengthen national security.

This pronouncement came when President Kiir witnessed the transition process in the army headquarters at Bilpham, where the former CDF, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, handed over instruments of power to Gen. Nang.

Kiir called on the army to continue with its noble ideals among the civilian population and to denounce vices such as land grabbing and indulging in active politics.

He cautioned that engaging in such activities will damage the military institution's reputation and undermine the Army's role in defending territorial integrity.

"We warn SSPDF and other regular forces against involvement in politics, but rather to concentrate on their transformation process into conventional institutions," the office of the president quoted him as saying.

"We will not allow anybody in uniform to engage in politics because you have a different role to play in the country. To members of the military and other organized forces, from today onward, you must refrain from engaging in dirty politics."

The head of state further reiterated that the SSPDF should be leading the operations in the clearance of illegal checkpoints along the major highways to ensure free passage of goods and services to the people across the country.

Gen. Nang, in his acceptance speech, promised to implement the directives from the president, aiming to reorganize and modernize the Army.

He also promised to put the welfare of soldiers first, ensuring that they have modern equipment and technologies to perform their duties effectively.

Notably, Gen. Santino's SSPDF and his successor, Gen. Nang, have played a significant role in restoring peace and stability to the nation.

The new army boss is expected to introduce fresh ideas and perspectives to the role, ensuring continuity and stability in the country's military leadership.
