Kiir inaugurates new Presbyterian church

President Salva Kiir on Wednesday commissioned the newly constructed Presbyterian Church in Juba.

The church is situated south-west of the city. It can accommodate more than four thousand congregations.

Lily Adhieu Martin, press secretary at the office of the President, said Kiir applauded the church’s efforts in promoting peace.

“President Kiir lauded the Church for its outstanding cooperation with the government, highlighting the many church-related endeavors, such as the promotion of peace and reconciliation in the country,” Adhieu explained.

“He (Kiir) stressed that the government would keep working with religious leaders as important partners in efforts to promote peace and encourage everyone to work together to solve problems and rebuild communities."

For his part, Rev. James Makuei Chuol, the moderator of the Presbyterian Church, expressed gratitude for the President’s support, pledging to continue their efforts in serving the community.

The leader encouraged citizens to support the purpose of the church and work together to solve problems that threaten the country's peace and security.

The Presbyterian Church of South Sudan actively contributes to peacebuilding through education, reconciliation, and community engagement.

Their efforts are essential as the country recovers from conflict and striving for stability.
