President Salva Kiir departed Juba on Friday for Addis Ababa to attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Heads of State and Government Summit.
The high-level meeting, set to take place at the AU Headquarters, will be held under the theme, "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation System to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
African leaders are expected to deliberate on strategies to strengthen water security and accelerate implementation of the continental development blueprint, Agenda 2063.
Speaking to reporters at Juba International Airport, the Chief Administrator in the Office of the President, Marik Nanga Marik, said President Kiir will also attend a meeting of the C5 Plus countries on the sidelines of the summit.
"He said South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will chair the discussions, focusing on the current security and political situations in the Republic of South Sudan," Kiir's office said.
The engagement is expected to review progress in the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement and explore ways to consolidate gains through regional and international support.
President Kiir was accompanied by several senior government officials on the trip and was seen off at Juba International Airport by Vice President for the Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai.
