Jur River attack leaves 15 dead

At least 15 people have reportedly been killed, and five others wounded in a Monday attack on Tharkueng Payam, Jur River County.

More than three children are also reported missing, according to the police authorities.

The police commissioner in Western Bahr el Ghazal State says the attack took place at a Police station adjacent to the main market in the area.

Maj.-Gen. Simon Yasi confirmed that some of the deceased include five officers, one of whom was the head of police department at Tharkueng, Col. Badansio Patasio Awet were killed.

“They killed five police officers, and soldiers from SSPDF and National Security Service,” Patasio told Mayardit FM on Monday.

“They also killed five civilians and injured five others. We also identified five bodies of the attackers at the crime scene.”

He accused armed youth from the neighboring Apuk community in Warrap State of attacking Tharkueng.

Simon added they have made redeployment of forces to prevent further attack on the village.

For their part, the Warrap state minister of information William Wol Mayom said they had heard of the incident and promised to probe it.
