Jonglei blames Uror attack on Pibor youth

The government of Jonglei State has blamed the latest attack in the area to armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

On Tuesday, the gunmen attacked Uror County, leaving at least 12 people dead and eight others injured.

The youth of greater Pibor were behind the attack, according to the Jonglei State minister of Information.

John Manyuon urged the GPAA authorities to look into the matter.

In response, GPAA Information Minister Abraham Kelang said he was not aware that youth from the administrative area carried out the attack.

“What I am aware of is, the youth are still busy here and some of them area suffering here. As authority, we are not aware,” Kelang told Mingkaman on Wednesday.

The recent attack in Jonglei has brought to 29 the number of people killed in the state since the beginning of the year.

The series of clashes came after youth from Jonglei launched an attack on GPAA during the festive season. Authorities said at least 50 people died in the attacks in Gumuruk and Lekuangule.
