Gunmen kill Jebel Boma commissioner, 13 other officials

The commissioner of Jebel Boma County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area has been reportedly killed along with 13 other officials in a road ambush in the area.

Jeremiah Korok Lotuboi and the team were returning home from Nyat Payam on Wednesday morning when their convoy came under attack by unidentified gunmen.

The administrative area information minister says some of the victims were senior army officials in the region, notably the deputy SSPDF commander.

“They had gone to Nyat Payan, where they spent a night. While coming back, they fell into the ambush and this is where the 14, including the commissioner and the SSPDF commander were killed,” Abraham Kelang confirmed to Mingkaman FM.

Kelang accused armed youth from Pochalla of carrying out the deadly attack – an accusation Mingkaman FM cannot independently verify.

Abraham added that the Area administrator has ordered the commissioner of Pochalla County to identify the perpetrators and hold them to account.

There have been reports of clashes in the area since September 2023 when soldiers shot dead the former SSPDF commander there.

An Anyuak, Col. Okony Okwom Othow was gunned down at his house by government soldiers, prompting youth to fight back.
