Governor Tong pardons 70 prisoners in Aweil

Northern Bhar El Gahazal state’s governor Tong Akeen Ngor has pardoned at least 70 prisoners in Aweil.

On 11th this month, 142 youth were arrested after the fighting erupted in a celebratory party leaving 9 people injured -3 police officers, 3 nurses and 3 members of the youth.

According to police, a group of young people that called themselves #All-Star consisting of 62 young girls and 80 boys organized a party in Makakdit Brothers Company (MBC) Hotel and later started fighting themselves in the hall.

Out of the 142, the court found 72 innocents when they were brought for court hearing.

Valentino Wol Kon Amoi, the director of prison service in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State says the release was approved by the governor himself.

He says they were released after the government realized that most of them are secondary school students and there was a need for them to continue with their studies.

‘Having realized that most of them were students in secondary school, the government agreed to pardon them all through approval of the governor. The high court, including the police, has forgiven them because we want them to study’ Valentino Wol told Akol Yam 91 FM.

However, he warns that if they [group of the young people] get involved in such activities again, they will not be exonerated.

He cautioned parents to take good care of their children and watch their movements.
