Residents in Tali Payam of Terekeka County, Central Equatoria State, reported that flash floods and insecurity along the Mundri road have crippled health services in the area, forcing them to rely on traditional herbal medicines for treatment.

According to community elder Dominic Maring Mamuud, the only health facility in Tali has run out of drugs for the past three months. He said residents who used to seek treatment at Lui Hospital in Western Equatoria and Mapuordit Hospital in Lakes State can no longer access those facilities due to flooded roads and insecurity.

“We are really suffering because previously, we use to refer people to Mapuordit but there is a stream called Roro that has full of water and there is no way to cross it. Only God that blessed the local herbs to help in treatment. None of our people died,” Mamuud said.

For his part, the Director for Health in Terekeka County, Pitia Peter, acknowledged the challenges facing residents in Tali and Tindilo Payams. He said the county health department will consult with partners next week to find ways of supporting the affected communities.
