The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) beat South Sudan 4-1 at Juba National Stadium on Friday in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

C. Bakambu gave DRC an early lead in the 17th minute after South Sudan's defense failed to clear the ball.

The Bright Stars nearly equalized through Pap Chol, but his effort was ruled offside.

Bakambu struck again in the 35th minute to extend the DRC's advantage, before Mbaku added a third goal in stoppage time of the first half.

After the break, Y. Wissa scored DRC’s fourth in the 56th minute, putting the game beyond South Sudan’s reach.

The Bright Stars pulled one back in the 68th minute, but it was only a consolation for the home fans.

The victory lifts DR Congo to the top of Group B with 16 points, strengthening their chances of advancing in the qualifiers.

South Sudan remains at the bottom with just three points from five matches. The Bright Stars still have three games left to play.

They will face Mauritania away on September 9, followed by matches against Togo and Senegal.
