Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology is expected to graduate 455 students from 2022 and 2023 classes on Thursday.
This is the second graduation ceremony that the university is going to hold since its establishment in 2007. The first was held in December 2019.
This is because the learning was interrupted by the 2013 and 2016 civil wars and the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, failure by the Chancellor, President Kiir, to officiate over a graduation ceremony in 2022 led to its postponement
The graduands are from five colleges: Management Sciences, Science and Technology, Education, Agriculture, and Environmental studies.
Speaking to Mingkaman FM from Bor, the Academic Registrar, Associate prof. Dr. Jok Ghai Mach, said only 31 among the graduands are females.
“We are conducting a very colorful event tomorrow, which will be chaired by the Senior Presidential Advisor, Kuol Manyang Juuk,” Jok stated.
“This is good step for the higher institutions of learning to send out the well-trained students that are going to help the society on different skills.’’
He appealed to the graduands to use the skills they have acquired for the last three or four years to help their communities.
Michaël Kuir Garang, a graduand of Bachelor of Science in Human Resource and Management from the College of Management Sciences, says he is optimistic that they will contribute to the nation building at their respective fields of specialization.
“This is what we have been waiting for. I would like to assure our people that we are going to serve our community. Some of us are currently working in the public and private sectors and it is because of the skills we have acquired throughout our studies,” he explained.
Kuir, who is also the former guild president, also appealed to the government to prioritize employment of the fresh graduates in their various fields of specialization.
