Calm returns to Kajo-keji after deadly shootings

Calm has returned to Kajo-keji County in Central Equatoria State after an infuriated soldier shot and killed his comrades at a military facility.

Sgt. Deng Ajok grew upset on Monday when he discovered his salary had been reduced, according to county commissioner Phanuel Jumo Dame.

The soldier, serving under military intelligence, reportedly opened fire on a senior military officer, Maj. Santino Longar, and Sgt. Maj. Deng Deng Ajak, killing them instantly.

“In retaliation, the army within the barracks confronted the assailant, killing him as he had proven wild,” says Dumo in a statement seen by The Radio Community.

A stray bullet struck Sgt. Maj. Deng Deng as the attacker targeted Maj. Longar, the commissioner told Eye Radio.

He called on the residents to continue their daily routines since the incident was confined to the barrack.

“We would like to assure the general public and the people of Kajo-keji to remain calm as the shooting was between [soldiers]. Currently, the situation is normal," Dumo added.

The official was unable to provide an explanation for the legality of Deng's salary reduction, as well as the specific figure and percentage.
