Awerial offers public university land in Mingkaman town

Awerial County in Lakes State has allocated 1,000m by 500m land to the Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Mingkaman town to establish three faculties there.

““We provided them with the land with the approval of Hon. Governor Rin Tueny Mabor and we are grateful to have them here,” said Philip Mawut Garang, county commissioner.

The proposed faculties are Agriculture, Environmental management, and Education.

The allocation of land was witnessed by a high-level delegation from the university, including the vice chancellor, deputy vice chancellor for administration, dean of science and technology, and three deans representing colleges of education and agriculture.

The initiative was also witnessed by three high profile elders of Aliab community represented by Lawyer Ayak Kom and area MPs representing the county at the state and national legislative assemblies.

For his part, Prof Abraham Matooch Dhal, the vice chancellor, said the center will equip learners with knowledge of research and productivity.

“It will be a center of multipurpose programs, but mainly we are targeting agriculture. We are targeting production of food,” he told Mingkaman FM.

“As a university of science and technology, we would like to train, make research analysis and also create goods and services and employment of people who will be around here.”

Founded around 2006, John Garang University of Science and Technology is a public higher learning institution.

The university’s main campus is located in the town of Bor, Jonglei State, on the banks of the White Nile River.
