Some
residences in Aweil town, Aweil Center, were flooded on Thursday night due to a heavy
downpour.
Residents say
the rain started at 10:30 in the evening and stopped at 5 on Friday morning.
They claim
that more than 50 houses have flooded, leaving people with nowhere to go.
The
residential areas affected include Gateway, Makuach Awit, and Naivasha.
“My compound
is filled with water, and my children are now in bed,” Monica Ahai, a resident,
told Akol Yam FM.
Another
resident, Nyan Malith, said that since the area floods annually, the community
should dig a dike to keep flood waters away.
“Every year,
this happens to us. So, what needs to be done is to dig dykes,” Ms. Malith
suggested.
Other
residents urged the government to dig up the drainage system in residential
areas.
However, Akol
Yam FM’s efforts to reach the authorities for comment were not immediately
unsuccessful.
