Aweil man burns in-law’s house over dowry dispute

A 49-year-old man has allegedly set fire to his in-law’s house in Malek Akol Village, Tiar-Aliet Payam of Aweil South County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, following a dispute over dowry linked to his daughter’s pregnancy.

Deputy Payam Administrator Japolo Agok told Akol Yam FM that Kuoc Deng Deng, whose daughter was pregnant and no dowry had been paid, argued with his in-law before allegedly setting the house on fire, which destroyed food supplies and household items.

“Such acts are unacceptable. We urge community members to resolve grievances peacefully and report complaints to the relevant authorities instead of resorting to violence,” Agok said.

Agok said the suspect is in police custody and will be taken to court once investigations are completed.
