Aweil West County Health Director, Alich Wol Wol, in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, has been admitted to hospital after breaking his knee during a fight linked to his suspension from office.
Police investigator Lt. Col. Philip Agany Thiep said the
incident happened on Thursday after the official was informed of his suspension
and a colleague went to deliver the message.
He said the information led to an argument that escalated
into a physical fight between the health director and the colleague.
“Alich Wol Wol fought with Bol Kur Yel, who is his staff member. Bol had gone to relay the information to him that there is a new guy coming in to take over the office. But, Alich refused and told Bol that he is a staff member and was not the right person to inform him of his suspension,” Thiep said.
According to police, director Wol was suspended to answer a court
case filed by his predecessor over unclear matters.
Police said both officials were injured in the fight and are
receiving treatment in hospital. Bol, who delivered the message, also sustained
head injuries after being stoned.
Authorities have opened a case and said investigations will
continue once both of them recover.
