The Ministry of Health in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State,
in collaboration with several NGOs, has established a cholera treatment unit in
Maper Akot Aru, Aweil Center County.
Since its inauguration earlier this week, the unit has
welcomed 134 patients with signs of watery diarrhea.
Luka Lual Aleu, the health education focal point, said the
unit is adequately equipped to manage patients afflicted with probable cholera
and other diarrheal disorders, encompassing both children and adults.
He revealed that the unit has engaged qualified medical
specialists to provide specialized care for cholera patients.
“All medicines for diarrhea are available in the center.
The unit has also qualified doctors that are responsible for cholera cases and
diarrhea management,” Aleu told Akol Yam FM on Thursday.
The creation of this specialized cholera treatment unit
is essential for curbing the disease's transmission and delivering prompt
medical assistance to sick individuals.
Some of the patients at the facility expressed their
gratitude to the ministry and its partners for establishing the center and
providing essential medical care to patients.
“This unit helps our children a lot because yesterday I
came with the child with cholera symptoms, and now the child got all the
services and recovered,” a happy Bakhita Abuk explained.
The initiative underscores the government's commitment to
public health and well-being, according to the ministry.
For her part, Mary Angong said, “I thank the state
ministry, MSF, and other partners for this initiative because our people will
no longer suffer severely from cholera and other water-borne diseases.”
In addition, the community urged the authorities and
partners to establish comparable cholera treatment centers in other counties to
mitigate the disease's widespread threat.
