Angry men set ablaze payam headquarters in Gogrial West

Authorities in Gogrial West County of Warrap State say unidentified arsonists have burnt to ashes Kuac-Achinydit Payam headquarters over a suspected land dispute.

Armed with machetes and sticks, the attackers reportedly asked the payam demonstrator to get out of one of the buildings or they would set them ablaze while inside.

“They urged the Payam administrator to come out or they would be burnt in the hut if he did not listen. The PA came pout automatically,” said Natalie Nhial Deng, Gogrial West County executive director.

The Kuac-Achinydit Payam headquarters was created recently by the Angui community on their alleged land.

But the community allegedly rejected construction of a school by Kuac- Achiny community in the payam headquarters, causing tensions.

The executive director said the criminal act has caused great damage to the headquarters, though he could not ascertain the value of the items.

“The loss could be chairs, sleeping furniture and others but we are waiting full details about incident,” Deng added.

Mayardit FM’s attempts to reach some community leaders for comment were not immediately successful due to mobile network problem in the area.
