Ambassador Lilly Adhieu Martin Manyiel officially presented her Letters of Credence to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, on Monday.
According to the South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this
formally marks the beginning of her assignment as Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Sudan to the State of Qatar.
The credential presentation ceremony, held at the Amiri
Diwan in Doha on 15 December 2025, marked a significant milestone in South
Sudan–Qatar relations and followed Ambassador Manyiel’s earlier presentation of
her credentials to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary-General in
October 2025.
Manyiel previously served as press secretary and
spokesperson for the president before her ambassadorial nomination. Her
appointment reflects Juba’s intention to expand diplomatic engagement with key
partners in the Middle East.
During the ceremony, His Highness the Emir welcomed
Ambassador Manyiel and other newly accredited envoys, wishing them success in
their missions and expressing optimism for deepened cooperation between their
countries.
The ambassadors conveyed greetings from their respective
leaders and reaffirmed commitments to strengthen ties.
South Sudan and Qatar have maintained diplomatic relations
for several years, with previous engagements including the accreditation of Qatar’s
non-resident ambassador to South Sudan from Doha.
Ambassador Manyiel’s arrival in Doha thus represents a
further step toward enhanced bilateral cooperation in areas such as investment,
development, and diplomatic collaboration.
In these bilateral engagements, South Sudan’s envoy has
discussed avenues for cooperation with Qatari officials, including talks
emphasizing support for humanitarian efforts and development partnerships in
the region.
Ambassador Manyiel’s accreditation is expected to pave the
way for expanded political dialogue and economic cooperation between Juba and
Doha in the months ahead.
