Authorities in Duk County in Jonglei State have confirmed the deaths of seven people and the injuries of ten others in a revenge-related incident on Wednesday.

The incident happened when suspected youth from Twic East County launched the attack on Duk County youth in the Lang area.

The victims were young adults ranging in age from twenty to thirty, according to the local authorities.

There is a long-standing communal tension between the Ayual Community of Twic East and the Hol Community of Duk County following the killing of Deng Dau Moradong, a renowned traditional wrestler, and four other men last year by the Hol Youth.

"We are blaming the former state and county leadership for doing little to arrest the suspects," said John Chatim, commissioner of Duk County.

"We are currently in contact with state and Twic East County officials to restore normalcy and ensure the arrest of the suspects."

Chatim urged the youths and the entire Duk County community to calm down and allow the state government to follow up on the matter.
