Woman arrested for dumping baby after ‘man abandons her’

Police have taken a woman into custody after she reportedly dumped her newborn baby in the nearby bushes in Twic County of Warrap.

The infant who was found alive was dumped in a pit by other little boys who were reportedly under the instructions of the woman in Agany Amuol village on Friday.

Brigadier General Marko Mawien Madut, Director of Police in Twic County said the baby was immediately rushed to the hospital, while the estranged mother was arrested on Saturday.

She reportedly confessed to the crime.

Brig. Gen. Mawien disclosed that the woman claimed she dumped the baby to spite the man who impregnated her and reportedly abandoned her.

“The woman is under police custody. We also informed her family to take her for treatment in the hospital. When the treatment is finished, she shall return her to the police station to explain why she did it,” he stated.

Last month, a similar incident happened in Pannyok after a 25-year-old woman was arrested for dumping a newborn baby in the swampy area.

The Director of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in the County condemned the acts of child dumping. Albino Manyin Mangok said it is punishable by law.
