A young man in Twic County, Warrap State, has shot dead his uncle over wife inheritance dispute, the police director in area said.
Mabioc Maper Mabioc’s father died in 2019, leaving behind his young wife – Mabioc’s stepmother. As Dinka culture dictates, Mabioc should inherit the unnamed woman.
However, authorities say his uncle Bol Koc Mabioc took over the responsibility of fathering children with her, angering the 22-year-old, who wanted the woman himself.
On Sunday evening, Mabioc reportedly cocked a gun and shot the 50-year-old three times.
“The suspect claimed to withdrawn his late father’s wife from his uncle but was unsuccessful and that’s why he decided to kill him for taking a wife free of charge,” said Brig. Gen Marko Mawien Madut.
“He shot the sub-chief in the back, neck and head with many bullets while sleeping at his isolated room at 8:00PM late evening on Sunday 25th June, 2023.”
He said the woman has four children, two of whom were fathered by the victim.
Mabioc is currently being held at Ajak Kuac in Aweng Payam.
