According to the state minister of information, Governor Kuol Muor Muor ordered the arrest.
The seven people who died by suffocation included four brothers who had been taken for questioning after their brother stabbed their sister’s husband to death on Sunday at Abong Ayok Payam in Tonj North.
The other three victims were suspects from Gogrial East County.
Information Minister William Wol said the government has also set up a committee to investigate the deaths.
“The government has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident, and this committee has only seven days to report its findings to the office of the governor,” Wol told Mayardit FM on Thursday.
Francis Marial Bur, the governor's security advisor, leads the committee, with Manyok Jurkuoc, the state police commissioner, serving as a deputy.
The other members include the state attorney general and the heads of CID and National Security Service in Warrap State.
