A mother and her baby died after being hit by a truck in Aweil town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Wednesday afternoon, a traffic police officer has told Akol Yam 91 FM.
The incident occurred at 3:00 PM at Udhamba area in Nyanlath payam. The deceased has been identified as Awut Deng Geng, 35, and her daughter Akon Tong Atak, one. They “died on spot”.
The truck was moving at high speed overturned, crashing into the two – who were walking alongside the road, according to Arkengelo Anguang Makor, state acting traffic police director.
“We have the driver here with us and he shall be sent to court after the investigation,” Anguang stated.
Anguang urged road users, drivers, and motorists to be careful while on the road to reduce cases of road accidents.
“We always blame the road accidents on poor riding and driving. If we drive carefully, we won’t have such problems,” he added.
The traffic police in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has recorded seven vehicular deaths in February, so far.
