Two Sudanese refugees killed in Wunrok

The commissioner of in Twic County has confirmed the killing of two Sudanese refugees in the area on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by Simon Aguek, the deceased were forcefully removed from a UNHRC vehicle in Wunrok.

“On behalf of the people of Twic county and the government, the leadership apologize to the UNHCR because the deceased were forcefully removed from their vehicle,” says the commissioner in the statement.

A convoy of more than 10 UNHCR vehicles carrying Sudanese refugees was traveling from Abyei Administrative Area to Wedwil refugee camp in Aweil when it came under attack.

The convoy, the statement reads, had a stopover at Wunrok market for a rest. Unfortunately, suspected armed youth stormed the vehicles at gunpoint and ordered two people to surrender.

”The county administration has taken measures to make sure that the perpetrators will face the law,” it adds.

The motive behind the killing of the unnamed refugees remains undisclosed.
