Two police officers shot dead by assailants in Budi

At least 2 police officers have been shot dead by unknown assailants while on duty in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria state.

The officers were reportedly killed after leaving Ngarera police post at around 10AM on Tuesday.

Hon. Bosco Lotyiang who represents constituency number 19 (Budi) at the State Legislature said the officers were murdered while conducting patrols.

“I got a call that there is an incident in Ngarera were 2 police officers were killed by unknown gunmen…they were crossing that stream to do their patrol,” he stated.

The deceased have been identified as Sergeant Lotabo Lorensio and Corporal James Okeny.

Hon. Lotyiang added that the authorities are investigating the incident.

Officials say Ngarera remains a security hotspot in Budi where gunmen often attack travellers and humanitarian workers.

According to Hon. Lotyiang, at least 5 people have been killed in the same location this year alone.

The police station was established there to addressed the insecurity, he added.
