Police have reported that at least two women were killed by their husbands in separate incidents in Gogrial East and West counties of Warrap State during the last few days of the Christmas celebrations.
According to the national police spokesperson, Col. John
Kasara Koang, the general security situation from December 26 to 30, 2024, was
relatively calm and stable countrywide, except for a few minor incidents and
isolated criminal occurrences, including social violence.
“In Gumel-Ayok-Thok village, Kuach North Payam, Gogrial West
County, a 31-year-old housewife was beaten to death by her husband in a
domestic violence on Dec 26, 2024. The perpetrator was apprehended, and a case
was opened in Kuajok police Station,” Col. Kasara reported.
Kasara said the husband is now in police custody for
investigation but did not name him or the deceased wife.
In a similar incident, a 42-year-old woman from Gogrial East
County died from her injuries at Aweil MSF Hospital after being stabbed three
times in the back and buttocks by her husband, who alleged she was cheating.
The Police Director of CID in Gogrial East, Thiik Agoth
Giir, stated that the woman was initially beaten on December 5 in Manyang
Payam.
She was rushed to Kuajok State Hospital and later referred
to the Aweil MSF hospital for further treatment, where she succumbed to her
injuries on December 28, 2024.
"The postpartum report indicates that the woman died
from internal bleeding of the intestine, which caused her death due to several
wounds on her body. Yes, the cause of the fight was adultery,” Agoth stated.
The husband has also been arrested awaiting trial.
Agoth identified the deceased as Ayom Dhal Makuac, 42, a
mother of nine children, and the suspected husband as Dot Dot Adolmat, 62.
“I urge the public to respect each other in life and find
peaceful ways of understanding their partners without resorting to physical
violence,” he urged.
The police say the suspects will be arraigned in court to
answer questions on domestic violence.
