Twic County authorities have recovered and handed over 44 of the 80 cattle that were stolen from the Misseriah community by armed youth in March 2025, in Ajong, Wunrok Payam.
Natale Nhial Deng, Twic County’s executive director,
announced that 16 more cows will be returned to the Misseriah community in the
coming days as part of ongoing efforts to recover all 80 stolen cattle.
“We handed over the cows to the Misseriah pastoralist
community yesterday, and they were very pleased with the outcome. They
expressed gratitude to the Twic community for fulfilling their promises. The
cattle were taken to their location the same day,” Deng said.
As recovery efforts continue, Deng warned that anyone who
sold or slaughtered the stolen cattle will be held accountable.
Sadik Jabon, the Misseriah community leader, thanked Twic
authorities for returning 44 cows and urged peaceful coexistence.
“I have confidence in Twic. Anything that I may have heard
negatively, I may not be able to accept. I appreciated Twic for handing over to
us our cattle. The thief is everywhere in the world, even the Misseriah
community has the same people,” Jabon stated.
Twic authorities have a history of recovering stolen cattle
for the Misseriah; last year, with backing from the county government, a peace
committee helped recover 200 cows that were taken by armed youth from Misseriah.
