At least three people have been reported dead in a cattle recovery mission in Kapoeta East County, Eastern Equatoria State.
“Yesterday [Wednesday], the youth from the Turkana area of Kenya attacked Toposa cattle camps in Nadapal,” Abdallah Lokeno, county commissioner, told Singaita FM on Thursday.
The cattle rustlers drove away about 800 heads of cattle. As a result, Toposa youth went after them.
“Later, the 800 heads of cattle were recovered by the Toposa. Two people were kill from their side and one young boy of ten years was shot dead,” Lokeno explained.
He said the attack occured while leaders from tge two communities were holding a meeting on peaceful coexistence at the Nadapal border area.
“We were with their authorities in Nadapal for a meeting on how the two communities will share grazing land and do barter trade among themselves,” he continued.
He encouraged the two communities to live in peace and harmony for better development on both sides of the border.
