Three killed, bodies burnt in Twic

At least three people were reportedly killed and another injured by unidentified gunmen in Turalei, Twic County, on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Boldit village in Anyel Kuac Boma at around 5 in the morning.

The deceased are two soldiers of South Sudan People Defense Force (SSPDF) identified as Capt. Puok Bol Kueth, 50, Sgt. Ngot Reech,30, and civilian Atem Manyiel, 15.

Col. Manut Ngot Riiny, head of the SSPDF force deployed in Aneet, told Mayardit FM that the soldiers were guarding the farm of Gen. Paul Nang.

He said after the gunmen killed the two soldiers and the one civilian, they locked them in one of the huts on the farm and set it on fire.

Col. Ngot added that the motive behind the killing remains unknown but forces had been sent to the scene to investigate the attack.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness, Nyuol Bol, who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack confirmed the incident.

“After the gunfire stopped, we went there and found that the people had already been killed and burnt inside tukuls,” he explained.

Twic County has been witnessing a series of attacks in the past few months since it fought its neighboring Abyei Administrative Area over Aneet.

Oiifcials say the conflict has claimed nearly 130 lives and injured scores.

On Monday, Hussein Abedelbagi, the head of the committee tasked with resolving the conflict, called upon chiefs from both sides to persuade youth to desist from violent conflict.
