Swearing in of NBG State MPs postponed

The swearing ceremony of Northern Bahr el Ghazal state transitional parliament has been postponed indefinitely. At least 92 MP that were appointed last year by president Kiir to reconstitute the state parliament were to take oath of the August house on Tuesday this week. Eight MPs from other political parties are yet to nominated by their parties.

Official says the plan to sworn in the state lawmakers on 22 February has been adjourned because of logistical and financial constraints. Francis Makol Mou is the Northern Bahr El Ghazal state transitional parliament clerk in Aweil.

He says the delay is caused by some technical issues in the state but will soon announce the new schedule for the ceremony. Makol apologized to the MPs for any inconvenience the cancelation has caused and thanked them for being patient.

Some members of parliament who spoke to Akol Yam 91 FM say it is the responsibility of the state government to organize the event. Other say they will wait for the new date that is yet to be set by the government for their swearing-in.
