Suspected killers of Aweil trader found with knife and victim’s phone

Three more suspects have been arrested by the police following Monday’s fatal stabbing of a trader in Aweil town, Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.

On November 7,  four people reportedly attacked a trader near his home at 11 pm in Tit Agok, Maper Akot Aru in Aweil town. The victim was stabbed in the neck.

On Tuesday, one of the four suspects was first arrested.

Today, Captain Guot Guot Akol, the State Police Spokesperson said additional arrests have been made in regards to the stabbing.

“The police managed to arrest 3 other suspects who escaped during incident. This makes them 4 suspects who were involved in attack on the trader,” he stated.

Captain Guot added that they found evidence connecting the 4 to the murder of the trader.

“The police recovered the phone of the victim from them and even the knife used during the murder of the deceased.”

He appeal to the family of the trader to remain calm and allow the law to take its course

Last week, the state beefed up security in Aweil following reports of gang groups mobilizing ahead of the festive season.

Some residents alleged that the gang groups are recruiting new members in the community – a sign that criminalities will increase during the festive season when most families would be shopping for Christmas.
